so I was reading letters written home during the civil war that my mother cataloged, and one soldier started a letter home to his wife with “My Dear Monkey—” and it made me really hope he survives, the sweetheart :)
edit: I just talked to my mother, and it turns out that he dies at Chancellorsville. dammit. oh, his poor Monkey.
